Description: Meet Ester! Ester comes to Pug Rescue from the shelter in Orange County where she was taken in as a stray. Ester is a tiny girl, weighing in at just 13 lbs. She's still young, and very active. Her coat is a very dark, smutty color, with lots of black on her back. Adorable!

Ester has been spayed and she is blind in her left eye. Her right eye is fine. She was possibly born that way and it is a bit cloudy, but does not require drops. Missing sight in one eye does not slow her down a bit! Ester had an ear infection when she came in, but it's doing well now. It does appear that Ester is a bit hard of hearing, though she is not completely deaf, she does hear whistles, clickers and a louder voice.

Update 7/31/10 - Ester has been moved to a foster home with a professional trainer, and has been enrolled in a training course. Ester will be learning her basic obedience - and will be taught a mix of hand signals and voice commands, as well as how to wait quietly in a crate, wait at doors, and walk nicely on a leash. Ester's forever family must be willing to keep up with her training, as a lot of time and effort will be going into making her a wonderful canine citizen. Ester will either need to continue with private lessons or enroll in an obedience class so that she does well with her new family. Ester is proving to be quite smart, it's just that no one has ever worked with her. She is learning to settle and watch for hand signals.

Ester is a very active girl, loves to run and jump! She's also a great kisser! Ester gets along with other dogs, although she mostly kind of ignores them, preferring to snuggle on her human's lap. She doesn't like sharing her lap, so she may do best with a sweet boy she can boss around! Actually, Ester would be fine as an only dog, and quite happy to get all the attention for herself. She would also do well with an older Pug who is not interested in playing. Ester tolerates cats, but will chase them if she catches sight of the, but she adores children.

Ester is still working on her potty training, we suspect she was used as a breeder dog because she has a tendency to mark. So far, it's been limited to dog beds that belong to others, but she'll learn. Ester's dream home involves lots and lots of cuddle time, and the thing she wants the most is to sit on someone's lap 24/7 and cuddle.

Update 8/5/10 - Ester is doing well with training, and is learning hand signals for sit, down, leave it, and wait. Ester LOVES food, so she really enjoys obedience! She is doing better in her crate, and will wait quietly when she is alone. If she sees someone, she makes quite a bit of noise, but she's learning that noise doesn't open the door. While Ester tolerates her older canine foster siblings quite well, she does NOT like the youngsters who want to play. She would do best in a home with no other dogs or senior dogs who are not interested in playing. Ester enjoys chewing on bones, and LOVES kong toys stuffed with peanut butter, and she wants nothing more than to cuddle on someone's lap. It is going to take a few months for Ester to completely settle into a new home, but she will be well worth the effort. She simply adores human contact, and just wants to be near someone all the time. The trick is teaching her that she is safe and okay alone. That will take time, and training.

If you think you'd like to be Ester's forever home, please contact us. She's waiting for her special family.

Ester is going by Emma in her new foster home, since Ester is way too close to Jester, a resident dog!
