Dashing Dexter is looking for a new home!

Dexter is a COURTESY POST. Please contact the owner below to meet Dexter.

Health: In good health. No major health conditions. Neutered. He has been diagnosed with ATOPIC ALLERGIC DERMATITIS and PYODERMA AND/OR HOT SPOT which has caused some skin irritation and fur loss on his chest and inner legs. Our veterinarian did testing for mange and mites and those were ruled out. The skin irritation is not contagious, but does cause him some discomfort/licking. We do not have it in our budget to do a full allergy panel, so we haven’t been able to find the cause. Our Vet suggested a change of diet, which did not help. We believe he is allergic to something in the environment, as it gets much better certain times of the year. Other than the skin issue, he is a perfectly healthy dog. His last set of vaccinations was on 07/21/2013. All of his care in the last 4 years or so has been at the Animal Medical Center in El Cajon.

Temperament: Dexter is a very easy-going, calm, good-natured dog. He is pretty quiet and did not inherit the beagle howl. Dexter only really barks when there are strangers outside. He is wonderful with people of all ages, and especially gentle with small children and babies. He never jumps on people or children. He also gets along really well with other dogs, but has never been exposed to cats. I believe, seeing how calm and gentle he is with small children and other dogs, he would get along well with cats as well. He does get down/sad when left alone, so we recommend that he is placed in a home with other animals.

Training: Dexter has not had any formal training, but understands basic commands such as “Sit”, “Stay”, “Come”, “Out”, and “Go Potty”. He is housebroken. He does well on a leash.

We believe he would make a excellent addition to any home and are really sad we have to let him go. Our One-year old daughter his having allergies to the pet dander, and it breaks out hearts to have to keep him isolated in the kitchen and outside. We know it’s best that he find a good home where there are people, and other pets that can play with him.

Please contact Heela if we can introduce you to Dexter.
